Ontario Securities Commission extends temporary suspension of short-selling in Canadian financial sector issuers

On Friday Oct. 3, 2008, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) announced that it has extended the temporary ban on short selling of certain financial sector issuers until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 8, 2008.

 

The issuers affected are:

 

  • Bank of Montreal (BMO)
  • The Bank of Nova Scotia
  • Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC)
  • Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd.
  • Kingsway Financial Services Inc.
  • Manulife Financial Corp.
  • Quest Capital Corp.
  • Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)
  • Sun Life Financial Inc.
  • Thomas Weisel Partners Group Inc.
  • The Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD)
  • Merrill Lynch & Co., Canada Ltd.

 

The OSC took this further action in its capacity as the lead regulator of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX).  More information is available on the OSC website.
