Ontario Pension Commission releases discussion paper

The Ontario Expert Commission on Pensions has recently released a discussion paper entitled "Reviewing Ontario's Pension System: What are the Issues?"  The Commission describes the purpose of the paper as an invitation to  "…interested and knowledgeable parties, and Ontarians in general, to join in a discussion of the issues that the Commission has been asked to review."

The paper is divided into three sections.  The first provides a general introduction to the Commission and an outline of what the paper is intended to accomplish.  The second provides a brief introduction to pension plans and income security in Ontario, recent developments affecting Ontario’s pension system and outlines questions raised by these developments.  The third section describes the major issues confronting the Commission.

The Commission has indicated its intent to "launch a program of research, to consult directly with major stakeholder and professional organizations, and to hold public hearings across the province in the fall of 2007."  A formal timetable has not yet been released.
