CIBC Mellon recognized for its support of the arts by winning the Globe and Mail Toronto Business for the Arts Award


TORONTO, Oct. 17, 2006 – At the Council for Business and the Arts awards ceremony last night, Thomas MacMillan, president and chief executive officer, CIBC Mellon, accepted an award on behalf of CIBC Mellon as winner of the 2006 Globe and Mail Toronto Business for the Arts Award. 

 

The award, presented in partnership with the Toronto Arts Council Foundation, was previously announced at the Mayor’s Arts Award Lunch in recognition of a local business that has made a significant contribution to the arts in Toronto.

 

CIBC Mellon was nominated for the award by Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir.  In her nomination, Jeanne Lamon, music director of Tafelmusik said “The involvement of senior executives from CIBC Mellon has been crucial to the success of Tafelmusik.  Their direct involvement has helped the orchestra to expand strategically and artistically to ensure a strong and vibrant future as an international centre of musical excellence.”

 

“We were very pleased to be nominated by this wonderful organization that contributes so much to the cultural vibrancy of our community, and our country,” said Thomas MacMillan, president and chief executive officer of CIBC Mellon.  “We are proud and honoured to receive the Globe and Mail Toronto Business for the Arts Award, and look forward to continuing our commitment of helping arts and culture organizations succeed.”
